Overview Technology has changed education. Most people think of online courses taken through Blackboard or WebCT when they hear the term distance education. However, distance education was a viable alternative to traditional education even before the Internet became popular. This paper gives a brief definition of distance education, outlines procedures for designing effective distance education, cites popular delivery methods used in distance education, and describes problems that often arise in distance education.
