Why Software Projects Fail: A New Assessment of Risk - Practical Methods to Mitigate Project Failure

Overview If anyones organization does not do a risk assessment during the project lifecycle, consider adding it at one or more places. Pay attention to the risk aspects previously discussed to anticipate some of the factors that create roadblocks to project success. Define both functional and non-functional requirements for tool selection, and then apply the MoSCoW rules to put the requirements in priority order. While this will not guarantee the project will succeed, it could reduce the impact of external factors. It is also important to consider the vendor history of support as part of the non-functional requirements.
