The MDA Architect: Where Does the Architect Fit in MDA?

Overview This paper discusses the role of the software architect in an MDA development process. As one has likely noted, the architect's responsibilities aren't much different from those in a more traditional development process. The exception is that in an MDA process the design issues, architectural style, patterns, and so on, are all determined and implemented using the MDA tool, rather than by separate processes of diagramming and then hand coding. The MDA process is an inherently architectural process, and so it suits the architect's needs and sensibilities particularly well. If one has designed a system using the MDA tool of one's choice, one can easily reuse it for other projects using similar technologies.
