Migrating to a Service-Oriented Architecture: Know the Benefits, Consider the Risks, Plan for Success

Overview Migrating from a systems-based architecture to an SOA means that the architecture consists of small and individual services, which can be reused while building larger business services. These services can simply communicate with each other through simple data passing, or a service could combine two or more services to do something new. Although SOAs are over-hyped at the moment, it is not a new thing. Technologies to implement SOAs, such as DCOM and CORBA, have been around for quite a long time. These days the SOA concept is largely based on Web services technology, which can be used in almost any development language or environment.
