3494 P2P Disaster Recovery Procedures for Tape

Overview An IBM Peer-to-Peer Virtual Tape Server (VTS) library has been installed on the z/OS production systems at a large Canadian bank. The Peer-to-Peer VTS library consists of one distributed library at the main production site and a second distributed library at the development/Disaster Recovery (D/R-development) site, located 35 km away. The separate distributed libraries are connected by Cisco DWDM's. The primary purpose of the Peer-to-Peer VTS is to provide for duplexing of critical tape files - one copy at the main production site and a second copy at the D/R-development site. This paper provides the operational procedures for utilizing the Peer-to-Peer VTS during a disaster recovery test or actual disaster and restoring the normal production configuration following a test or actual disaster.
