A Functional Comparison of Systems Management Tools From IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell
Overview To get the most value out of the technology investment throughout its life cycle, one needs smart, effective systems management that can help ensure high availability while minimizing the ongoing ownership costs. This paper evaluates the x86 hardware platform management products from IBM, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Dell, and how these products contribute to the goals of effective systems management. A hardware platform manager is software or hardware designed to monitor and manage specific devices. Many basic management features are available from all vendors; however, the vendors differ greatly in how they perform this basic management and in their products' more advanced monitoring and alerting capabilities.
