The New Data Center: Toward a Consolidated Platform
Overview Security concerns about HTTP/S traffic are greater in the corporate data center than on the open Web. Dedicated secure sockets layer and other security devices are often needed in this part of the network. Web servers require patches and updates to be protected from internal and external attacks, and firewalls and intrusion detection and prevention devices are often needed to prevent attacks on the application. Soon more staff must be added to manage the new Web-based infrastructure. Even then, performance isn't what it should be, and end users are dissatisfied with the Webification migration. Ultimately, this trend will reverse, and Webification will change the nature of the data center such that it runs on a simple, elegant platform that has fewer devices and more flexibility.
