Power Company Optimizes Technology, Increasing Efficiency While Reducing Costs

Overview Edesur, a distributor of electricity in Buenos Aires, Argentina, needed a strategic plan for upgrading its aging IT infrastructure. With 50 servers and 2,000 desktops, Edesur wanted the plan to be cost-effective, easy to implement, and scalable. Edesur turned to Microsoft Consulting Services for assistance, which recommended the Core Infrastructure Optimization Model, a phased plan for modernizing Edesur's technologies, systems, and procedures. Edesur upgraded its servers to Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory, migrated e-mail to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, upgraded desktops to the Windows operating system with Microsoft Office products, and implemented Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 to monitor the operations of its servers. Edesur increased operational efficiency, enhanced system security, reduced maintenance and IT costs, and created a framework for future growth.
