Korea's Leading Shipbuilding Firm Enhances "Engineered-to-Order" Model With SAP NetWeaver

Overview Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has to grapple with problems of an aging facility and the lack of process integration was inhibiting the company's ability to conduct performance analysis and business planning effectively. The company's production process is "Engineered-to-order", which means the volume (or production planning and execution) data and material (like purchasing and inventory) data changes depending on what has been engineered to fit customer's needs. As part of its aggressive "Global Top 2010" initiative to position itself as the leading shipbuilder and marine engineer worldwide by the year 2010, DSME has already identified SAP as a key vendor that will help the company achieve improved productivity through IT.
