Overview One has probably been hearing a lot about Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) from IBM and others in the IT industry: about its inevitability as an enterprise software architectural style of choice; about how, if one has anything to do with software engineering for the enterprise and one isn't part of the SOA bandwagon already, one soon must be or give up the chase entirely. One might even be hearing about how, if one is using SOA, one must also carry out a somewhat vague-sounding activity called "Governance," or one will also find themselves left behind. Many of the people talking in this vein are doing so because they want to sell one something.
