IBM WebSphere Developer Technical Journal - Process Anti-Patterns: How to Avoid the Common Traps of Business Process Modeling, Part 1

Overview This paper describes typical modeling errors extracted from hundreds of actual process models created in different tools, including WebSphere Business Modeler. These anti-patterns cover six common process modeling scenarios. Part 1 of this paper focuses on two scenarios around the modeling of control flow. The paper discusses anti-patterns that occur when one needs to describe branching and iterative behavior in a business process model. The paper introduces an example illustrating typical errors, which one generalizes into an anti-pattern. The paper then presents one or several patterns that show a correct solution to the modeling scenario, and summarize the recommendation.
