Overview Managing a geographically distributed network within multiple locations had become increasingly cumbersome for AngloGold Ashanti, so in 2002, the gold mining company adopted a centralized IT infrastructure and administration model. To further optimize this model and gain added security features, the company decided in 2006 to update its security software, which was at the time based on Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000. Working with Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Dimension Data, AngloGold Ashanti deployed Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2006, which supports centralized IT infrastructure administration by treating groups of ISA Server computers across multiple sites as a single logical unit. Now, AngloGold Ashanti enjoys faster network performance, easier IT management, stronger security, and a lower total cost of ownership.
