Online Retailer Adopts Software-Plus-Services to Connect With Customers

Overview Play.com is the fourth largest online retailer in the United Kingdom. the company has been investigating new ways to interact with its customers. Having successfully incorporated customer reviews into the site, Play.com decided to enhance the Web site further, to: encourage customers to interact with each other; make play.com features widely-accessible; and offer customers a richer entertainment proposition. Play.com is working with Microsoft to evaluate its IT infrastructure and deploy a software-plus-services architecture. Attracted by the opportunity to integrate Windows Live services and rich application programming interfaces, the retailer is developing a new Web site to be unveiled in 2008.
