Securing Physical Access and Environmental Services for Datacenters
Overview Datacenters in many organizations house the "Crown jewels" in IT terms - mainframes and other computer servers, disk farms, tape silos, networking equipment etc. and, of course, enormous quantities of data. This briefing identifies physical security controls typically used to protect valuable datacenter assets against risks such as physical damage, theft, fire and flood. It also describes typical environmental services required to maintain suitable operating conditions for the datacenter systems and workers. This paper is specific to datacenters. It does not directly address physical security for distributed computing and networking facilities, office-based departmental servers and desktop systems, mobile or home working setups.
