Implementing SATA Technology in the Enterprise Data Center
Overview The enterprise data center has large amounts of business-important information that is only accessed periodically, but still must be readily available. Companies have struggled to find a cost-effective solution to safely store this valuable data. And while this "Secondary storage" can tolerate lower performance compared to the systems running the production applications, it must be reliable and provide robust functionality. In the past, there was not an ideal solution for secondary storage. Solutions with the right level of robustness were too expensive because of high-priced Fibre Channel (FC) drives. Conversely, systems with lower cost drives had unacceptable levels of functionality and reliability.
