Remote Backup Alternatives for System i
Overview This paper outlines the alternatives available on System i to allow a backup tape to be created at a remote site rather than writing it locally and sending it offsite by truck. The advantages and considerations for each solution are explained. Although there are many possible alternatives for remote backups on System i, only a few of the solutions are typically a good match for customer requirements. The simplest solution is remote tape, but it is typically only financially viable when the customer owns the property between the sites, and thus is able to avoid telecom charges for a high band-width network.
