Project Red Hook: Implementing IBM Virtual Client Solution (VCS) at the IBM Center for Microsoft Technologies
Overview The IBM Virtual Client Solution (VCS) provides an environment where traditional desktops are replaced by virtual clients. A virtual client is essentially an image of a desktop computer (a virtual desktop) stored on a central server. The image of the virtual desktop is accessed through a remote connection from a client device (for example, a thin client or another desktop PC), but otherwise behaves almost identically to a desktop PC. A virtual desktop can be assigned to a single, exclusive user, or it may belong to a pool of images available to users on a first-come, first-serve basis. Both types of images - private and pool - can be used within the same infrastructure.
