Modeling Demystified, Part 1: Creating a System Specification From the User's Point of View
Overview Nobody deliberately builds a product that's hard to use. Yet too often one encounter tools, equipment, and IT solutions that are confusing, annoying, and unusable. Why is that? In many cases, IT solutions are hard to use because the designer has built the solution based on what the technology or gadget can do, instead of on the needs of the person using it. This is not an individual failing to do his or her job. Rather, software-development methods too often focus on the correct design only of system function and limit external design to visual issues such as color, terminology, interactivity, and screen layout.
