Using Veritas Portable Data Containers to Migrate Oracle Databases From Sun to HP Integrity

Overview This paper describes how customers can quickly and easily migrate Oracle9i databases from Sun Solaris to Red Hat Linux or HP-UX 11i running on HP Integrity systems using the Cross-Platform Data Sharing feature of Veritas Storage Foundation. Migration of a single instance, single node database is demonstrated. The testing described in this paper was performed on a Sun V480 server running Solaris 9 and two HP Integrity rx2620 servers, one running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and the other running HP-UX 11i v2. Shared storage was provided by an HP StorageWorks 6000 Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA).
