Server Virtualization

Overview Computer data centers are continually expanding and increasing in complexity. This complexity, added to the need to reduce IT budgets while increasing IT services and agility, has caused many companies to turn to server virtualization. Server virtualization allows multiple application servers to be virtualized on a physical server system, thereby reducing the number of servers in the data center while increasing utilization. This paper will discuss the impact of virtualization technologies and will examine the products currently available in the marketplace. It will also demonstrate the advantages of virtualization technologies and how they can help lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). However, before looking at server virtualization, let's look further into the current challenges that are addressed by virtualization.
