Backup and Recovery Best Practices for Oracle 10g With HP Data Protector 6.0
Overview Over 40% of enterprises use Oracle databases as part of their core applications. The availability requirements of these core applications vary from less than three hours of unplanned downtime per month to as little as five minutes per calendar year. This paper describes testing that used a combination of three Oracle 10g server configurations and three backup infrastructures - an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Modular Library (EML) E-Series Tape Library, an HP StorageWorks Virtual Tape Library System, and an HP Enterprise Virtual Array disk storage system. The purpose of the testing was to develop best practices for the backup and restore of an Oracle 10g environment using HP Data Protector backup software across all combinations of the three backup infrastructures and the three Oracle 10g environments.
