Building on Scalable Shared Databases in SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition White Paper

Overview With rapidly growing, mission-critical databases deployed on Microsoft SQL Server 2005, the need for timely and scalable reporting operations has become a business-critical need among Global 2000 enterprises. Enterprises face time-constrained, off-hours windows where there is effectively less time and computing power available each night to complete resource-intensive reporting jobs, within a given (often nightly) reporting window. As the size of databases deployed on individual SQL Server systems grows, so too does the time it takes to complete each reporting job. Today, the size of databases deployed on SQL Server is often measured in the hundreds of Gigabytes to Terabytes.
