Overview This paper discusses Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) concepts and explains some major hardware and software requirements. The Fibre Channel (FC) standard was developed by the National Committee of Information Technology Standards (NCITS). The System z FCP I/O architecture conforms to the FC standards specified by the NCITS. System z FCP support enables z/VM and Linux running on System z to access industry-standard SCSI devices.
