Transforming the World's Emerging Markets
Overview Globalization will be increasingly important in determining the rate of economic growth, with emerging markets accounting for a larger piece of the world economy by 2020. The shift of labor-intensive production processes from regions like Western Europe to lower-cost economies will continue. Companies will use networking technologies to tap into a worldwide pool of talent and resources. Consequently employees will have to collaborate more, and more effectively, over distance and time zones, both inside and outside their organizations. This paper reviews the main factors that are set to influence economic development in the world's emerging markets until 2020. These include the specific challenges facing developing economies as they build out infrastructure and take an increasingly large share of the global economy.
