MIT Uses Web Publishing System to Create an Award-Winning Online Knowledge Base
Overview The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) created the OpenCourseWare (OCW) online initiative to make the MIT faculty's course materials available to a worldwide audience of educators and learners. The first initiative of its kind, MIT OCW has the mission of providing free and open access to the syllabi, reading lists, course notes, lecture videos, and other materials from virtually all of MIT's courses. To achieve this ambitious goal, MIT needed a publishing system that could handle huge amounts of information yet required little maintenance. MIT implemented a customized version of Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 to make MIT OCW's goal a reality.
