Utility Company Speeds Desktop Deployment, Enhances Security With New Operating System

Overview Companies usually upgrade the majority of their IT infrastructure every three years. Business plans at Stadtwerke Düsseldorf AG, a public utility company, called for upgrading 2,500 PC and notebook computers to a new Windows operating system in 2007. At that time, the release of the Windows Vista operating system was imminent, which meant the utility had two options: upgrade to the reliability of Windows XP or wait another year for Windows Vista to be released. A feasibility study showed a clear case for migrating to Windows Vista. From the earliest planning stages, it was clear that migration tools for Windows Vista and Microsoft SoftGrid Application Virtualization would save significant migration and client PC operating expense.
