Manufacturer Boosts Branch Office Security and Performance With Domain Controllers

Overview The HELLER Group, a leading producer of metal-cutting machine tools, employs approximately 2,300 people in 20 locations around the world. To minimize security risks posed by unsecured domain controllers, only nine branch offices had domain controllers to manage access to IT resources. Consequently, many employees had to log on to the system through domain controllers in the corporate data center, which could take several minutes. In addition, approximately 400 employees used unmanaged portable computers to access IT resources, putting the network at risk for infection by malicious software. In 2007, HELLER chose to migrate to Windows Server 2008.
