New Windows Server Technology Makes Children's Hospital Records More Available and Boosts Staff Productivity

Overview The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne, Victoria provides a full range of clinical services, tertiary care, and health programs for children and adolescents. Its 4,000 staff accessed files from a central server. However, this single server was periodically unavailable, for instance during patch updates and system upgrades. As a result, staff saved data locally on their PCs instead of on the network, but these files could not be shared with other users. To overcome this problem, RCH joined the Rapid Deployment Program for Windows Server 2008 and implemented two servers using the operating system's Failover Clustering capability. With enhanced availability of shared files, the hospital anticipates improved employee productivity and satisfaction.
