Windows Server 2008 Helps Speed Application Access and Boost Security
Overview Many employees at the Mantrac Group are highly mobile, traveling between offices and customer sites to sell products. They often access applications remotely using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services. IT staff sought a solution that could boost network manageability by providing for streamlined access control procedures, server and application virtualization, and single sign on. After evaluating solutions from VMware and others, Mantrac decided to upgrade its 128 servers to the Windows Server 2008 operating system. The company is making use of many of the operating system's new capabilities such as the Terminal Services Gateway, which provides more secure access to applications without using a VPN; built-in support for server virtualization; and Active Directory Federation Services, which facilitates single sign on.
