Building Event-Driven Architecture With an Enterprise Service Bus

Overview One of the more important concepts in the domain of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is that of Event-Driven Architecture (EDA). Similar to the event mechanism in, for example, JavaScript or 4GL environments where triggers - pieces of executable program code - can be hooked into events such as button-pressed, field-value-changed, or query-submitted, EDA specifies how "Services" are hooked into "Business events." This paper explains - via a simple example based on Oracle ESB - how this central backbone can be configured to carry published events as messages to the external parties.
