iDirect Brings the Cost of Satellite Broadband Access Down to Earth

Overview iDirect needed to extend its product line to meet growing demand for satellite-based services. But the company's legacy microprocessor was unable to deliver the necessary performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness to meet the business goals. They needed a processing platform that could deliver 100 percent performance improvement at a lower cost and lower power, integrated features like encryption and Ethernet MACs, and the ability to "Turn on" features that were specific to certain products. iDirect chose the Intel IXP425 network processor as the core of the platform for its iNFINITI line of satellite-based broadband routers. High performance, strong encryption, lower power, and a highly integrated feature set of the IXP425 enabled iDirect to meet all of the functional requirements for multiple solutions with a single processing platform.
