Metro Ethernet Service Delivers Higher Capacity, Controlled Costs, and Easier Upgrades

Overview The Cisco headquarters campus in San Jose, California, was served by four separate OC-3 links for Internet connectivity. When one of these links needed to be replaced, Cisco IT implemented a Metro Ethernet circuit with a Cisco 12404 Router as the gateway - yielding the company higher capacity and traffic throughput, improved routing protocol convergence and scalability, and lower costs. As traffic volumes increase, the solution also allows Cisco IT to implement incremental bandwidth upgrades without changing the router interfaces.
