Leading by Example: Microsoft Streamlines Creation and Allocation of Virtual Machines

Overview The Microsoft Virtual Server Utility (VSU) team manages availability, capacity, and placement of more than 1,800 Virtual Machines (VMs) on more than 100 hosts throughout the enterprise. It allocates these resources to end-user operational teams. Because the VSU team managed this growing base of VMs manually, it was difficult and time-consuming to measure the VM-based environments, assess their efficiency, and handle allocation. Using Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager, the VSU team now manages VMs in data centers and labs across the enterprise with a single, unified tool. The team drastically reduced the cost and effort of administration, while improving utilization and measurement. It now takes the team minutes, instead of hours or days, to create and manage VMs.
