Regional Airline Sees Online Sales Soar 1,000 Percent With Custom-Built Booking Engine
Overview The airline industry recession that followed in the wake of September 11, 2001 sent Hawaiian Airlines into a financial tailspin. To reverse its fortunes, the airline decided to revamp its Web site so that it could sell more tickets online directly to customers. To do so, it re-created the core of the site - the Internet booking engine - using the Microsoft .NET Framework and related Microsoft .NET tools and technology. The new booking engine allows Hawaiian Airlines to cater to its customers with customized features and frequent, rapid updates that were impractical or too expensive to make in its previous Web site. As a result, online sales immediately rose 400 percent and the company turned an annual loss to a U.S.$60 million gain.
