Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Processor Characterization for HP ProLiant Servers

Overview This paper reviews the effects of various processor design elements and their impact on the performance of Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. The affects of processor clock speeds and differences in the Front Side Bus (FSB) bandwidth were tested on Intel Xeon 5000 and 5100 series processors to determine how their performance affects Exchange Server 2003. This paper highlights how increasing the clock speeds beyond 2.33 GHz has little or no impact on Exchange. This is shown in the test results comparing several Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 series processors with one another.
