Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Migration and Consolidation

Overview This paper describes a best practice process for consolidating servers and storage in a multiserver Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server environment by concurrently migrating to a single server Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 environment on a Storage Area Network (SAN). The methodology described is commonly referred to as the "move mailbox" method. It includes installing a new Exchange 2003 server into an existing Exchange 2000 Administrative Group, using the Exchange 2003 move mailbox wizard to move the user mailboxes from the source Exchange 2000 server to the target Exchange 2003 server, and decommissioning the old servers.
