The Rijkwaterstaat, a Division of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Provides Motorists With Access to Traffic and Transport Information From Pocket PC Devices
Overview In October 1999, the Rijkswaterstaat issued a tender for a mobile computing solution that would offer Dutch motorists access to real-time traffic and transport information on the move. The system had to be able to receive information using RDS-TMC technology and quickly display the information onscreen using color digital maps. ARS T&TT has developed the TravelStar application running on Hewlett-Packard Jornada 430 and 545 Pocket PCs. It deployed in 1,000 cars owned by rental company, Budget, and car leasing firm, De Lage Landen Translease, as part of a year-long field trial. The application is compatible with all Pocket PC devices.
