Microsoft Case Study: Firstwave Technologies

Overview Firstwave Technologies, a leading provider of innovative customer information systems, proposed to differentiate itself from companies selling automation tools for internal sales forces by developing tools that address the needs of the extended enterprise-the VARs, distributors, and small shops that are all part of the sales process. The company believed that the best way to develop a solution of this type was to make it Internet-based. Firstwave created Netgain Sales, an Internet-based, sales-force automation solution that includes not only a company's internal sales force, but the channel as well. The developers researched the Java/ CORBA model but decided to go with Microsoft technology instead.
