Shared Service Center Concept for Vehicle Fleet Changes Behavior and Gives Remarkable Results
Overview The success of a postal logistics operation hinges on efficient and economic transportation. At Post Denmark, all tasks concerning vehicle services were previously handled in a decentralized manner in about 50 postal centers and delivery offices. Some purchase agreements were made centrally with suppliers, but key decisions like capacity planning, vehicle replacement, repair, maintenance, insurance, fuel payments and taxes was largely left to the local management for more than 5,200 cars. This had given rise to duplication of tasks, high operating costs, capacity imbalances and other such problems.
