Sanofi-Aventis Looks to Unified Communications for Secure Collaboration

Overview Sanofi-Aventis is one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. With 100,000 employees, global communication is a challenging, yet essential, part of the company's product development. In 2002, the Sanofi-Aventis IT team built a collaboration environment - eLounge - using Microsoft .NET technology and Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. In 2006, Sanofi-Aventis then chose to participate in a Microsoft unified communications pilot program. The team wanted to investigate whether Office Communications Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 with Unified Messaging could enhance the features of eLounge, and, most importantly, provide a communications network that would help protect its intellectual property. During the pilot, employees found that the enhanced voice over IP, enterprise instant messaging, and conferencing could help them increase productivity and reduce product time-to-market.
