Gates Outsources System Management Across Asian Sites and Gains 99.9% Availability

Overview In 2004, Gates Corporation directed that all disparate databases and applications software under Gates Unitta administration be replaced with an Oracle-based IT infrastructure. However, the age and diversity of hardware and software used in various Asian locations presented GUA with a challenge: either upgrade old IT hardware and software infrastructure or seek some other solution. Oracle suggested the company utilize Oracle On Demand, a comprehensive, configurable set of services designed specifically to manage Oracle products. A new hosting service model of Oracle On Demand called EBSO@Oracle was commissioned and implemented at GUA's Korean sites at Seoul and Taegu. With database and application management outsourced to Oracle in Austin, Texas, the system went live in August 2006.
