Solid Edge Helps Benthos Win a Contract for Underwater Anti-Terrorism Equipment
Overview Benthos, Inc. announced that it has received an order for five of its Stingray Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), with an option for 10 more units, from the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency in Ottawa, Canada. Canada needs more secure ports quickly. Benthos wanted to fit a lot of equipment into small space. Tight contract deadline requires fast, customized product design and traditional prototype delays must be avoided. The company modified existing Stingray ROV to meet Canadian specifications. They also analyzed design in 3D to avoid fit problems and interferences. They used visualization in 3D design to reduce number of prototypes as well as used complex shape creation capabilities in Solid Edge to reduce underwater drag on ROV.
