New IT Environment Reduces Time for Statistical Analyses by 97.5 Percent
Overview As a premier Korean university, Pusan National University (PNU) places high importance on providing accessible, high-quality education through state-of-the art equipment and techniques. In its 60th year, PNU growth brought about these challenges: inadequate support for increased computational analysis in courses; inability to manage growing digital data like student records, course materials, financial information and digital library; disparate information storing and archiving; and insufficient computing power to allow for data search, analysis and aggregation. To meet these challenges, The IT center of PNU moved to a 64-bit computing architecture in 2003. Running on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64 bit) for Itanium systems, PNU constructed a data warehouse and Education Statistics Information System (ESIS) with OnLine Analytical Processing (OLAP).
