Communications Solutions in Support of Pandemic Planning

Overview The risk presented by a pandemic is confounding. All indicators suggest it would have a catastrophic impact on the social and business fabric, but there are preparations that can be made today to help limit the impacts of a major outbreak. The H5N1 virus (A bird-adapted strain of H5N1 has been commonly referred to as the Bird Flu), today's most likely pathogen, has been passed sporadically from animals to humans, and while continuing to evolve, has not mutated into a form highly contagious between humans. As a consequence, when a pandemic will occur is unknown - based on current knowledge, this year is as likely as any year in the future. Epidemiologically, however, one is overdue.
