The FAA Improves Response Time and Regulatory Processes

Overview The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for ensuring the safety of US air travelers. The FAA controls approximately 200,000 takeoffs and landings per day and moves nearly 700 million commercial air passengers per year. Its responsibilities including incident response, civil air regulations, safety research, and the air traffic control system. The FAA needed new processes and technologies for improving event response, reducing time and cost to create new regulations, and increasing internal collaboration. The agency deployed Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and other Microsoft communication and information management technologies. Benefits were quickly realized, including quick adoption in all lines of business, significant reduction in incident response time, and an eight-fold faster process for developing new regulations. These benefits were realized at costs far below competing solutions.
