Major Northern Ireland Government Services to Launch Online Following Robust Security Implementation

Overview Like most public sector agencies, Northern Ireland central government departments and local authorities are under pressure to meet U.K. government deadlines to get core services online by 2005. But because there was no single method for ensuring security and there was also a shortage of technology expertise in this sector, many organisations were unable deliver these services as quickly as they wanted. The region's e-Government Unit implemented Microsoft Department Interface Server (DIS) 2004 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 to create a single infrastructure, shared by both central and local government departments, for launching online services, safeguarded by two layers of security. Many public sector agencies are now preparing to launch core online services.
