Cost-Effective Development System Makes Mobile Telephony More Accessible in Uganda

Overview Africa is the world's fastest-growing mobile phone market - and the East African state of Uganda is no exception. Since 1998, MTN Uganda has driven a revolution in service delivery, empowering mobile users on low incomes with a range of new services. As part of this revolution, MTN Uganda wanted to create a new, automated airtime sharing system, called Me2U, which allows customers to top up the mobile phones of families and friends using their own handsets. After considering J2EE and Oracle development environments, the company decided to create the new system using the Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 developer tool.
