Healthcare Provider Improves Reliability and Integration With Messaging Solution
Overview Intermountain Healthcare consistently wins awards for its use of technology to benefit patients. To continue that tradition of technological excellence, the organization sought to improve overall manageability and reduce IT costs by consolidating the disparate hardware and operating systems in its decentralized IT environment. It began the standardization process by focusing on its mission-critical messaging system, which consisted of an unpredictable Novell GroupWise 6 infrastructure. After evaluating GroupWise 6.5, IBM Lotus Domino, a Linux-based messaging application, and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, Intermountain Healthcare selected Exchange Server 2003. The new centralized solution is significantly more reliable and easier to manage, thanks in part to fewer servers and a single operating system, and the organization has reduced software costs for messaging by 20 percent.
