VLAN Security in the LAN and MAN Environment
Overview VLANs are no-longer confined to LAN environments and are becoming more widespread in their use. Unfortunately VLAN security is not always considered in their implementation. This paper discusses security issues, and their risks, caused by both mis-configuration and hardware flaws for VLANs in both the LAN and MAN environment. Since the creation of VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) their use has become far more widespread than the simple concept of separating traffic into smaller, logical broadcast domains. Today VLANs are not only used as an integral part of the LAN environment, they are now also being used as a means of providing WAN (Wide Area Network) / MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) services.

HP-UX VLAN: Planning and Implementing VLANs With HP-UX
Virtual LAN (VLAN) technology allows to separate logical network connectivity from physical connectivity. This concept is different from a traditional LAN in that a LAN is limited by its physical...
Antenna Selection in High-Throughput Wireless LAN
This paper presents a new method for implementing antenna selection in high-throughput Wireless LANs (WLANs), addressing two major practical concerns: antenna selection training protocol design, and calibration to solve RF...
Vocera Communications Cuts RMA Rate in Half
Headquartered in Cupertino, CA, Vocera Communications, Inc., has developed a wireless voice communication system to enhance customer service, productivity, and teamwork at hospitals, retail stores, hotels, and service organizations. The...
An Efficient Multi-Hop ARP Scheme for Wireless LAN Based Mesh Networks
One of the important functions of wireless mesh networks is a multi-hop packet forwarding among fixed wireless routers. The current proposal for the IEEE 802.11s specification (i.e., the standardization effort...
Managing Energy Consumption Costs in Desktop PCs and LAN Switches With Proxying, Split TCP Connections, and Scaling of Link Speed
A growing expense and impact of the Internet is its energy use. Current estimates are that 2% of electricity consumption in the USA goes to powering the Internet. In Germany...
