The CIO's Guide to Legacy Optimization

Overview

The ongoing increase in maintenance and licensing costs for existing applications leaves only a limited share of the IT budget for new investments in more strategic IT capabilities. Today, this has become a serious concern for Chief Information Officers (CIOs). Needless to say, a major part of the legacy systems resides in mainframes. Some of these are in-house and some rented from infrastructure providers. In addition, multiple licensing models based on mainframe usage add another cost dimension.

This white paper provides an overview of the economics and technicalities involved in optimizing legacy systems to save ongoing IT costs, with particular focus on mainframe systems.
